How the Calculator Works

We estimate your yearly CO₂ emissions using widely used emission factors. Here’s how each category is calculated.

Transport

We use your daily distance and vehicle type to estimate fuel-related CO₂.

Formula: Daily km × 365 × Emission factor (kg CO₂/km)
Emission factors (approx.):
Petrol: 0.21 kg/km · Diesel: 0.24 · Hybrid: 0.12 · EV: 0.05 · Public transport: 0.05

Energy

Electricity and gas usage are converted to CO₂ using standard grid and LPG factors.

Electricity: Monthly kWh × 12 × 0.82 kg CO₂/kWh (solar halves this)
Gas cylinders: Cylinders per month × 12 × 14 kg CO₂ per cylinder

Diet

Food choices have a large impact. We use average yearly diet emissions by consumption level.

Approx. yearly kg CO₂:
Heavy meat: ~1800 · Medium: ~1200 · Vegetarian: ~900 · Vegan: ~600

Waste

Plastic use and recycling habits add a smaller but meaningful amount of emissions.

Plastic bags: Bags per week × 52 × ~0.02 kg CO₂ per bag
Recycling: If yes, we apply a 15% reduction to waste-related emissions.
